Meet Lucky Dog, Rhoda

Meet RHODA: the pup with a heart full of cuddles

Rhoda is about 4½ years old and was adopted from the Berkeley Animal Shelter in October 2024. Believed to be a pitbull mastiff mix, she was originally thought to be seven years old — a happy mix-up that helped her catch the eye of her future human through a Muttville post.
Early on, Rhoda had her care team worried when she refused to drink water, earning a few trips to the ER and quickly becoming a familiar face at the clinic — like Norm walking into Cheers. She’s perfectly fine now, though she still enjoys “gravy water” and frozen pupsicles to stay hydrated.
A true people-lover, Rhoda even enjoys going to the vet. She also treats car rides as part of her walks, often sitting upright in the back seat like a passenger, calmly taking in the scenery.
At home, she’s a champion cuddler who believes personal space is optional, generously leaving just a few inches of bed for her human. She sleeps in late and would happily stay tucked in all morning if not gently coaxed awake.

Rhoda is also a total ham, striking glamorous poses on park benches as if she’s walking the red carpet. And in matters of the heart, she didn’t hesitate to claim her boyfriend Linus the moment they met — her very own honey bunny.
Her human won the chance for Rhoda to be the next Lucky Dog with the winning bid at the 20th Anniversary Celebration for Friends of Oakland Animal Services (FOAS). We all agree — she’s one very lucky and very special dog.
